This substantial size painting dates from the the first half of the twentieth century. Just back from our restorer, it is signed and dated lower right.

Schattenstein was born in Panemune, Lithuania. He studied at the Academy in Vienna, after which he moved to Berlin in 1906. He immigrated to the United States in 1939. Known for his portraits Nikol was sought after for commissions. His work was exhibited at many NYC galleries.
